Since opening Miller Home Inspection in 1997 Harold has inspected thousands of homes while honing those critical defect recognition skills necessary to provide you with the best results. As a former repair and remodeling contractor Harold also brings specialized knowledge and insight above and beyond that of the average inspector. His personal homes have always been a never ending source of home improvement projects. Starting in 1996 he and his wife Kelly tackled their first "fixer upper", well before reality TV shows were around. It was a 1925 Craftsman style home in Everett, WA that needed some work. Remodeling the bathroom, adding a second bathroom, re-plumbing and electrical were on the list. Next came a new construction home on Camano Island, and as with every home there is always a project. Decks, porches, kitchen and baths all got facelifts. Installation of an upstairs laundry, a basement apartment, and construction of a detached shop outbuilding were also added. Then came the 1972 dilapidated bank owned home in Ocean Shores that had been sitting on the market for years. No one wanted to touch it with a 10 foot pole. Harold & Kelly took a risk and immediately started to bring it back to life piece by piece. Most every space needed work and improvements. This tested Harold's framing, plumbing, electrical, and overall remodeling skills again and again. As if this was not enough Harold & Kelly decided to sell their Camano Island home and move to their most challenging fixer upper project in Stanwood, WA. The home had a unique story. Originally it was an early 1900's home in Seattle not far from Green Lake and directly in the path of Interstate 5 during it's construction in the 1960s. The original owners had sold their property to the State and had 3 months to remove the home, disassemble it, and then later they reconstructed it on beautiful Lake Ketchum by 1969. Sadly over the years wear and tear had taken a toll. What was groovy in 1969 was not so much by 2018. The list of what was right with the home was much shorter than what what was wrong.
